About The Event

New experiences are one of the most powerful sources of personal growth and learning. But experience alone doesn’t necessarily lead to learning; deliberate reflection on experience is essential. It’s through reflection that we make sense of new experiences, identify the lessons learned – and turn insights into action and change. Reflection is also at the heart of the most effective approaches to learning – especially on a slippery issue like leadership.

Many of us have good intentions about reflecting on our practice but often find it difficult to maintain the discipline; and we’re often so distracted and stretched that we miss opportunities for learning.

This short virtual workshop is an opportunity to remind yourself about the range of approaches you could be using to reflect and learn from experience individually and with others. We’ll look at some of the barriers to useful reflection and at ways to overcome them.

What you can expect

The event is a space to discuss what works and share experience with like-minded colleagues. We’ll be exploring:

  • The principles, benefits and practice of reflection for leaders
  • How we reflect, what works and what doesn’t
  • Different approaches to reflection
  • How to deepen our reflection
  • How to follow through with action

Clive has written four blogs on Reflective Practice for Leaders and they’re available here: https://www.taylorclarke.co.uk/blog

Clive Martlew has over 30 years experience as a leadership coach. He was previously Head of Learning and Leadership Development with the Scottish Government and at the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
